It was a week of goodbyes for more than a dozen state lawmakers who are retiring. In this photo, state Sen. Joel Lourie, the dapper Columbia Democrat whose family once owned a clothing store, tells a story of when his friend, Democratic Sen. Vincent Sheheen of Camden, once wore a khaki suit, yellow shirt and yellow tie into the chamber. “He looked like a stale banana … and I just let him have it from the time he got here until the time he got home ,” Lourie cracked as senators laughed.
