PHOTO: American palmetto

This patriotic palmetto sculpture is what visitors see as they walk from a parking lot into the S.C. State Museum in Columbia. The museum, located just down the street from the state capitol on the banks of the Congaree River, offers four floors of permanent and changing exhibits, as well as a planetarium, interactive theater and observatory. Also on the grounds is EdVenture, Columbia’s children’s museum.
