Chef Jeff Henderson met with students in the Midlands, Pee Dee and Lowcountry this week to spread his message to encourage students to pay attention to excel so they can be successful. As highlighted in a story in the Sept. 9 issue, the TV chef had a rough go of it before fame — he was a drug dealer in a tough L.A. neighborhood who served almost 10 years in federal prison before working hard to turn around his life. In the photo above, Henderson talks with students at Woodland High School in St. George. Below are other pictures from the event.
State Sen. John Matthews, D-Orangeburg, spoke before Henderson and told students why education matters: “This is the foundation that will be with you always. It will give you lifetime benefits.”
EdVenture Executive Vice President Nikki Williams, whose organization put on the three-day tour for Henderson around the state, stressed paying attention to succeed.
