House members and senators introduced about four dozen new bills this week as the May 1 crossover deadline looms. Next week will be the last week that members will be able to move bills from one chamber to another without a supermajority vote. Among the bills introduced this week:
IN THE SENATE
Transportation fund. S. 1255 (Grooms) seeks to establish a new transportation maintenance fund equal to 2 percent of the previous budget.
Road bill. S. 1258 (Senate Finance Committee) seeks to revamp road funding in various ways in many provisions to provide more money to fix roads.
IN THE HOUSE
Birth grandparents. H. 5236 (Tinkler) would allow biological grandparents to have access to information about adoptees, biological parents and biological siblings.
Animal abuse. H. 5246 (Long) would require anyone convicted of ill=treatment of animals to undergo mental health evaluation.
