AGENDA: Long-awaited ethics reform debate ahead?

00_icon_agendaState senators may resume the seemingly forgotten, long-stalled debate to make major changes to state ethics laws.  Most of the rough spots have been smoothed, but the major sticking point still seems to be whether the state Ethics Commission will become more independent with new powers to look into the legislature or whether lawmakers will try to continue to be part of the review process.

Sources say there is nothing else in the prime “special order” category that would block the Senate again taking up debate on the floor on ethics reform.  As senior editor Bill Davis reports in today’s news story, the Senate may take up equitable education funding on the floor, too.

Elsewhere, the Senate Finance Committee will work on the just-passed budget from the House in its subcommittees.  Look for full committee work to start April 12.

In the House, members remain on furlough for the coming week.
