House members on Monday will start long hours of deliberations on the state’s $7.5 billion budget of general tax revenues for the 2016-17 year. Allocations include up to $1.2 billion in surplus revenues from the past year. For a discussion of what’s in the budget this year, take a look at our March 4 story.
In the Senate, lawmakers are dancing around a bill on refugee registration, apparently waiting for political filing periods to end on March 30 before potentially taking up ethics reform again.
Looking ahead, the House is expected to take two weeks of furlough after the budget debate ends next week. The Senate is expected to take off the week after Easter.
