If you can’t be in Columbia to watch what happens at the Statehouse over the next few months, all you’ll have to do is flip on your TV.
SCETV’s ETV World channel will offer viewers the chance to see what happens on the House and Senate floors during session times, which generally start at noon on Tuesday and 10 a.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays through June. While coverage will flip between chambers on television, you can pick the chamber you want to watch online when both are in session by going to scetv.org. For more information about online offerings, check out the website.
According to a press release, the public television network also will offer coverage of some House and Senate committees in afternoons when floor sessions are over. Daily committee meetings with links are posted each day at the top of the ETV homepage, marked in red as “live event.” Videos are also archived and available for viewing. Additionally, there will be some recaps on public radio as part of SCETV’s coverage.
Longtime Ware Shoals senator passes away
State Sen. Billy O’Dell, a Ware Shoals Republican first elected in 1988 as a Democrat, died Thursday at the age of 77. His cause of death was thought to be related to a heart condition, according to media reports.
“For more than 25 years, Senator Billy O’Dell worked tirelessly for the people of his district and the state, and we are forever grateful for his service,” Gov. Nikki Haley said Thursday in a statement. “Michael and I ask that you lift up Senator O’Dell’s wife, Gail, and his family, friends and constituents during this difficult time. He made South Carolina a better place.”
O’Dell served on the powerful Senate Finance Committee and chaired the General Committee, which often is described as a “catch-all” committee that takes up special projects, such as a recent investigation of the state Department of Social Services. More.
