Haley’s anti-union rant is plantation mentality

To the editor:

In 1860 South Carolina labor had absolutely no voice and no vote. In fact labor would have been whipped by an overseer had it even suggested that it was entitled to voice or vote.

00_icon_feedbackToday in South Carolina, labor still has absolutely no voice and no vote. In 1860 we called that system a plantation. Today we call it “The right to work”. This label being the shortened version of the full moniker  “The right to work with little or no benefits and to not be compensated fairly”.

During her “Plight of the Plantation” address this week, current overseer, Nikki Haley, stood at the ready with the cat o’nine tails anxious to demonstrate her behavioral modification techniques which she has adapted for use against today’s South Carolina labor force and against those who would advocate on behalf of our working people.

What workers in South Carolina need is not Nikki Haley’s undying allegiance to the plantation owners of our state. What they need is an modern day Emancipation Proclamation that includes a livable wage, a decent education for their children and unobstructed access to the benefits of the Affordable Care Act. Of course Haley’s fear is that any one of those things would just ruin a good field hand.
